FAQ

I need both recording and mixing. Can you track full bands?

Although there is some space and equipment at the Green Room for instrument tracking, it is a composition, mix and production space, rather than a recording studio. However, if you've got your multi-tracks and find that a vocal isn't working or a guitar was poorly recorded, I can definitely help with that.

If you do want to work together from the tracking stage there are a number of excellent studios across Bristol we can work from.

Can I send you my project file / unedited track?

The prices advertised on the site are for mixing a fully edited track / project. Additional editing work (comping, fixing timing on drums, adjusting arrangement etc.) is charged out at my hourly rate. Tracks for mixing need to be in multitrack or stem format, rather than in a project file.

Full details of what is and isn't included int he fixed price are in my contract, which we will agree before any work commences.

Do you do mastering?

I would strongly advise of the importance of having a different person (preferrably a dedicated mastering engineer) providing a fresh perspective on your mix before making the final adjustments for distribution.

I do have a lot of partners who master audio so if that's what you're after I can help you find something to suit your budget.

How quickly can you mix my track?

This depends on my calendar and whether any significant editing work is needed beofre the mixing begins. When we discuss a project I'll send you a list of requirements. The more things that are already ticked off, the quicker the process will be.

I will always give you an accurate time estimate and delivery date up front so you can decide whether you would like to go ahead.

I don't need anything bespoke but I would like to license some of the music featured on your site

All the music featured on my site is licensable. Much of it is distributed and licensed through production music companies including Bleach Productions and BMG Production Music. Anything that's not on there, let me know what you want and we can arrange a license

Can I/we sit in on sessions?

Unfortunately the Green Room isn't suitable for attended sessions. However, I understand how important it is to be a part of the process. There may also be situations, for example with recording work, where remote communication isn't an option. Just let me know what you need and what your expectations are before we start the project and I will meet them if I can

I make electronic music and beats myself. Is it cheating to have someone else help me mix/produce them?

Of course not. Creativity is a collaborative process and nothing great was ever created in a vacuum. Artistry combines all sorts of inputs, and the recognition that you many not be best-suited to every single role is part of what makes an exceptional producer. My services are commissioned upfront and unless credits constitute a part of our contract, you are under no obligation to credit me.
